Our IDL sample portrays images
from a class on Introduction to Aerodynamics, produced and distributed
under joint venture between several corporations and a consortium of high
schools located around the United States. |
 |
This Interactive Distance Learning class had the instructor
located in Texas, while the high school students were located in other
states. These states were on the East Coast, West Coast, and in the Mid-West.
|
 |
- Digital images and pre-recorded video combine with a
live expert aviation teacher to achieve superior instructional results
and learning outcomes.
|
 |
- Voice, data, and video connectivity
allowed for full interaction between the instructor and virtually every
student.
|
 |
One-way video images are broadcast via satellite.
Interactive voice and data are achieved through
phone lines and modems. The instructor can speak to any student at any
location, and any student may speak with the instructor. |
 |
Every student has a small
keypad. Each student responds via keypad to quiz questions that are presented
by the instructor via voice and/or video images. Students' keypad responses
go to a computer (file server) for recording, analysis, and presentation
of feedback. |
 |
After a tutorial segment on the
principle of lift, the instructor presents a multiple choice question to
the students. While the instructor describes each of the four alternative
answer choices, the students see each of four dynamic images. Once all
four clearly labeled images appear on the TV screen simultaneously, the
instructor informs the students that they have 20 seconds to select their
answer via keypad. |
 |
After 20 seconds, the TV screen displays the response patterns
of all the students. The instructor then goes on to state which alternative
is the correct answer and discuss why. All students not only get to interact
with the subject matter, each also gets immediate feedback on the results.
